BOMBANANA! runs on voice chat, so "the game is broken" usually means one of two things: comms stopped working, or you hit the crash bug the developer has officially acknowledged. This page keeps those two separate. Every dated claim below traces to a Lefto Studio Steam announcement, checked on September 24, 2026 — and where no official fix exists, this page says so instead of inventing one.
The One Officially Known Issue: Random Crashes
In the v1.0.1 hotfix announcement (September 3, 2026), Lefto Studio listed the launch build's known issues in a block of its own:
⚠️ KNOWN ISSUES — Some players may experience random game crashes. We are still investigating and working on a fix.
That is still the state of things. v1.0.2 (September 10, 2026) did not mention crashes, and as of September 24, 2026 no patch has been published after v1.0.2 — so by the developer's own last public statement, the crash bug is open and unfixed.
What that means in practice:
- A crash is a game bug, not your PC, your drivers, or your internet. Do not spend an evening reinstalling hardware for it.
- There is no officially published workaround for the crashes. Anything circulating as a "crash fix" is folklore until Lefto Studio confirms it, and this page will not launder forum guesses into instructions.
- Reports still matter. The studio says it is "actively tracking your feedback in our community channels to balance puzzles and squash pesky bugs" (the 500,000 milestone post, September 7, 2026) — so a factual report is ammunition, not noise. What to include is in "What to Report, and Where" below.
For the running changelog, see the patch notes guide.
Symptoms That Are Already Fixed — Update First
Most "it doesn't work" reports in this game's first month match something the studio has already patched. The useful table is therefore symptom → the patch that addressed it:
| You see | Fixed in | What the official note says |
|---|---|---|
| Voice chat crackling or distorted | v1.0.1 — Sep 3, 2026 | "Fixed cracking and distorted sounds in Voice Chat." |
| You cannot hear anyone, or they cannot hear you | v1.0.1 — Sep 3, 2026 | "Fixed an issue where some players could not hear or speak through Voice Chat." |
| Teammates' voices still coming from the Report panel in 3D after returning to the lobby | v1.0.1 — Sep 3, 2026 | Voice Chat could still be heard in 3D on the Report panel after returning to the lobby from a run. |
| Spanish Yes/No text in the wrong place | v1.0.1 — Sep 3, 2026 | "Fixed incorrect placement of the Yes/No text in Spanish." |
| Controller prompts / UI never appear when playing with a controller | v1.0.2 — Sep 10, 2026 | "Fixed the controller UI not appearing when playing with a controller." |
| The lobby code is always on screen (a problem when streaming) | v1.0.2 — Sep 10, 2026 | "Added a button to hide and reveal the lobby code." |
| Manual pages blank in Italian | demo Hot Fix — Jun 16, 2026 | "Fixed Italian language manual book white pages issue." |
| Wrong information on the Italian Calculation Module page | demo Hot Fix — Jun 16, 2026 | "Fixed Italian language wrong information in 'Calculation Module' page." |
| Cannot join a friend's lobby | demo Hot Fix — Jun 16, 2026 | "Fixed lobby join network issues." |
| Voice chat noticeably delayed | demo Hot Fix — Jun 16, 2026 | "Fixed voice chat delay issue." |
| Emote wheel texture stuck on screen | demo Hot Fix — Jun 16, 2026 | "Fixed emote wheel texture stuck issue." |
| The Mute's view is blurry | demo Hot Fix — Jun 16, 2026 | "Fixed mute player blurry vision issue." |
Three of the launch-week fixes were voice chat alone. That is the strongest argument for the boring answer: make sure you are on the newest build before you debug anything else. Patch notes are published on the game's Steam announcements page.
One related staleness trap: matchmaking only exists from v1.0.2 (September 10, 2026). Any guide or thread older than that date telling you that you must arrive with two friends already is out of date — see the multiplayer guide.
Player-Side Checks Worth Doing
These are ordinary Steam client steps, not cures for the crash bug. Do them to rule your own install out, then move on.
- Confirm your build. In Steam: Library → right-click BOMBANANA! → Properties → Updates. The game should say it is up to date; the newest patch as of September 24, 2026 is v1.0.2, published September 10, 2026.
- Verify the files. Same panel → Installed Files → Verify integrity of game files. This is the Steam client's own repair path: it re-downloads anything missing or corrupted. It is the only "reinstall-ish" step that costs you less time than it saves.
- Check you are on a supported platform. The store page lists Windows and macOS; Linux is not listed as supported (checked September 24, 2026). Mac support arrived on July 3, 2026, announced for the demo — so macOS-specific complaints written before that date describe a Windows-only build. For the platform picture in full, see the platforms guide.
- Sort out audio devices before blaming the game. Pick the same input/output devices in Steam's own voice settings and in Windows/macOS sound settings, and confirm you are not muted in-game. Use who-is-broken as the diagnostic: if only your mic fails, it is your device or permissions; if all three of you fail at once, it is the game — and voice chat is exactly the area the studio has patched twice.
- After a crash, relaunch and rejoin the lobby rather than assuming your session survived. Lobby joining was an acknowledged problem area during the demo, and a stale client is the cheapest thing to eliminate.
If all five check out and you still have a problem, it is either the known crash bug or something new — and new is what reporting is for.
What to Report, and Where
A report the developers can act on has six parts:
- Version (v1.0.2 or what your client reports) and whether it reproduced before and after updating.
- Operating system, Windows or macOS, and the machine's rough specs.
- Mode and level — Campaign level number, Endless wave, or Custom settings. Custom bombs with heavy modifiers are worth describing exactly. A level number beats a description here: the per-level pages list each bomb's timer, strike allowance and module slots, so one number pins down the exact bomb you hit.
- What you were doing at the moment it broke, in one sentence.
- Who was affected — just you, or the whole lobby. That single distinction is what separates a server/voice bug from a local crash.
- Whether it reproduces, and how reliably ("every time on Level 29" beats "sometimes").
Send it to the channels Lefto Studio actually staffs: the official Discord (discord.gg/zJrY2ZbSUX) and the game's Steam Community Hub. The same announcements also appear on the studio's X, Bluesky and Reddit accounts, but support conversations happen in Discord and the Hub.
What This Page Deliberately Does Not Say
- No invented crash fix. The developer's position as of September 24, 2026 is "still investigating" — anything more specific you read elsewhere is a guess dressed as an instruction.
- No demo-era advice applied to the launch build. The demo was delisted on August 20, 2026 and the launch build is a different game in several respects; if a tip cites a June or July post, check whether the fix it references already shipped. Read the demo guide for what changed.
- No promise that localization bugs are gone. The only manual-page bugs ever officially confirmed and fixed were Italian, during the demo. If your manual reads wrong in your language, that is a reportable defect, and the manual guide explains why the in-game book still outranks every cheat sheet.
If the game ever disagrees with this page, the game and the official announcements win — this is a mirror of them, not an authority over them.
This page is a community guide — strategies reflect the launch version (September 2026) and may shift after patches. The in-game defusal manual is always the final authority.
