BOMBANANA! Symbol Module: Rotate, Listen, Press the Right Color

Bomb ModulesUpdated: 2026-09-17✓ manual-verified

The Symbol module (often called the Symbol Wheel) is a Medium-tier rotation-and-stage puzzle. Its official rule: "Rotate the pointer to find the symbol that makes a sound. Press the correct colored button based on the current stage, and that symbol." The symbol hunt is easy; the traps live in the close-identical twins and the stage tracking.

How the Symbol Module Works

  1. Rotate to find the sound. The Blind turns the wheel until the pointer lands on a symbol that makes a sound.
  2. Describe the symbol. The Deaf names the symbol so the Mute can find its row in the manual.
  3. Match stage to color. The manual's table maps the current stage + that symbol to a colored button to press.

The Twin-Symbol Trap

Near-identical symbols come in pairs — a filled star and an outline star, a rounded hourglass and a sharp-cornered one, and similar lookalike sets. Naming the "shape family" is not enough. The Deaf must describe the distinguishing detail, not just "it's a star." Teams that call loosely on Symbol modules eat repeated strikes on what is otherwise a quick round.

Keep Stage Tracked

The module advances through stages; each stage changes which button the manual wants. Stage management is the other common failure:

  • Always state the current stage out loud before the lookup: "stage two."
  • On multi-stage relays, assign one player to track the stage count so nobody assumes the previous stage's answer still applies.

A Stable Loop

  1. Blind rotates to the sounding symbol and holds.
  2. Deaf names the symbol with its distinguishing detail.
  3. Mute reads the manual for the current stage + symbol → target color.
  4. Blind presses that color, then moves to the next stage.
