BOMBANANA! Morse Code Module: How to Solve It

Bomb ModulesUpdated: 2026-09-09✓ manual-verified

The Morse code module is one of the puzzle types new in the full version of BOMBANANA!, confirmed through community help threads during launch week. It is a sound-based module — which immediately makes it unusual: the Deaf monkey, the team's eyes and usual describer, is locked out of this one by design. Someone with hearing has to do the listening.

The standard wiki disclaimer applies twice over here: module rule sets vary between bombs, and this module was still being solved by the community in the first days after launch. The in-game defusal manual held by the Mute monkey is the single authority for what the tones mean on your bomb.

How the Module Works

The module plays Morse code tones. The flow, as observed in community threads:

  1. Someone with hearing transcribes the tones into dots and dashes — the Blind monkey (full hearing, hands on the bomb) or the Mute (full hearing, manual in hand).
  2. The Mute looks up the transcription in the manual's Morse chapter and works out the required answer.
  3. The answer travels the usual relay: Mute gestures to the Deaf, the Deaf speaks it to the Blind, the Blind inputs it.

Here is the interesting part: the Mute has full hearing and the manual. If the tones are audible to the whole team, your Mute can listen and look up in one head — the shortest information chain in the entire game, with the Deaf relaying only the final answer. Community threads from launch week describe teams solving it both ways. If your Mute struggles to transcribe while paging the manual, have the Blind call the tones aloud instead.

One tool that costs nothing: a real notepad next to the keyboard. Transcribing dits and dahs on paper beats holding them in your head while a relay is shouting numbers at you.

Agree on the Vocabulary First

Before the round, settle these:

  • "Dit" and "dah" (or "dot" and "dash") — two words that cannot be confused under pressure. Never say "short" and "long" — "short" and "shot" sound identical in a panic.
  • Letter boundaries — agree that a pause means "letter complete" before you transcribe, so · − − is read as A–T, not as a W-in-progress.
  • Repeat signals — the gesture for "play it again" must exist before you need it.

Reference: International Morse Code

The standard international Morse alphabet, for training your ear:

LetterCodeLetterCodeDigitCode
A·−N−·1·−−−−
B−···O−−−2··−−−
C−·−·P·−−·3···−−
D−··Q−−·−4····−
E·R·−·5·····
F··−·S···6−····
G−−·T−7−−···
H····U··−8−−−··
I··V···−9−−−−·
J·−−−W·−−0−−−−−
K−·−X−··−
L·−··Y−·−−
M−−Z−−··

Important caveat: whether BOMBANANA! uses standard international Morse for its transcription tables has not been independently verified by this wiki — community threads were still working through the module in launch week. Treat this table as ear training for hearing dits and dahs cleanly, and treat the Mute's in-game manual as the authority for what your bomb's tones actually decode to.

The Traps

  • E vs T, the deadliest pair. One dot versus one dash — the two most common Morse elements and the easiest to swap under timer pressure. If a transcription feels too short, ask for a replay instead of guessing.
  • Speed. The module's playback speed is part of the difficulty. A replay request costs seconds; a wrong transcription costs the whole sequence.
  • Noise hazards. Loud interruptions (see the environmental hazards guide) mask tones exactly when you can least afford it. If noise hits mid-sequence, restart the transcription from the top rather than filling gaps from memory.
  • Transcribing in your head. Don't. Write it down. The relay chain is long enough without asking anyone's working memory to hold −·−·− against a two-minute timer.

Where It Sits in the Module Roster

Sound-based modules like Morse are the reason the launch version's hazard system stings — they are the only standard modules the Deaf monkey cannot describe at all. In your module order strategy, treat Morse like the other lookup modules (wires, direction): fast if the transcription is clean, catastrophic if it isn't. The full roster and the ordering logic are in the modules guide; for how the manual's lookup chapters are organized, see the manual guide.

This page is a community guide — strategies reflect the launch version (September 2026) and may shift after patches. The in-game defusal manual is always the final authority.
